Death Toll in Sichuan Landslide Stands at 11

A landslide in southwest China's Sichuan Province left at least 11 people dead and six others injured Sunday, local officials have said.

The incident occurred at 1:50 AM at Shiji Village in Kangding County of Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture.

Nearly 100 cubic meters of rock fell smashing into 12 houses and hitting 40 others, said an official with the county's disaster-relief office.

More than 50 farm animals were killed by the falling rock which also destroyed areas of farmland and trees. Traffic was unable to get in or out of the village and electricity and water supplies were cut off. 

All the injured have were hospitalized and three of them are in a serious condition, doctors have said.
