US Trade Representative Rob Portman announced in Geneva,
Switzerland on Wednesday that the US government would seek a
special review, under WTO rules, of China's efforts to crack down
on pirated products.
"If China believes that it is doing enough to protect
intellectual property, then it should view this process as a chance
to prove its case," Portman said in a statement.
He said that "our goal is to get detailed information that will
help pinpoint exactly where the enforcement system is breaking down
so we can decide the appropriate next step."
On Tuesday, the Ministry of Culture, State Administration of
Radio, Film and Television and National Copyright Administration
held a press conference with the Motion Picture Association of
America reporting mixed results of efforts against film piracy
since their joint memorandum of July 13.
