The Shenyang Declaration was issued at the conclusion of the
14th Northeast Asia Economic Forum on Wednesday in Shenyang,
capital of northeast China's Liaoning
Province.
The two-day forum focused on topics including the blueprint for
the future of the northeast Asia, energy markets in the region, the
revitalization of northeast China, and regional cooperation.
Under the declaration, forum participants agree to conduct joint
activities to implement a Grand Design for Northeast Asia, which
will be recognized as a guideline for the promotion of the
sustainable development of the region.
In the field of energy, Northeast Asian neighbors are encouraged
to cooperate for the purpose of diversifying the region's supply
sources for oil and natural gas thereby enhancing regional energy
security, according to the declaration.
The forum is part of the ongoing 2005 Northeast Asia Hi-Tech
Fair that opened on Tuesday.
The five-day fair has attracted officials and experts from
northeast Asian countries including Russia, the Republic of Korea
(ROK), Japan and Mongolia.
The Northeast Asia Economic Forum (NEAEF) is a regional,
non-governmental organization that sponsors and facilitates
research, networking, and dialogue relevant to the economic and
social development of the region. The forum is also committed to
promoting understanding and relations among the peoples of
Northeast Asia and North America. Forum membership is extended to
interested individuals and institutions, through participation in
the forum's annual international conferences.
