China has sent about seven tons of Muslim food to the
tsunami-hit areas along with other relief materials, according to
Beijing Yueshengzhai Muslim Food Company, one of China's major
Muslim food producers.
Since many victims in the tsunami-hit areas are followers of
Islam, the Chinese government has paid special attention to
providing appropriate food.
Beijing Yueshengzhai was appointed by the government to supply
relief goods.
"We have been working day and night to produce sufficient and
high quality food for Muslim victims in the tsunami-hit areas. It
is the least we can do," said Ma Qiang, a Hui employee at the
company.
Yueshengzhai follows Muslim dietary and food processing rules
strictly and its products are clearly marked with designated seals
of approval. Nearly 60 percent of its employees are Hui Muslims,
who understand the importance of strict adherence to Islamic
law.
The company plans to prepare ten tons of relief food to fill
further government orders.
