The China Council for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification
(CCPPR) held its annual conference in Beijing on Sunday, attended
by about 300 representatives from more than 40 countries.
Vice Chair Liu Yandong of the Chinese People's Political
Consultative Conference's National Committee discussed the many
achievements of the CCPPR during the past 16 years. She noted that
it has strengthened China as a nation, and by expanding exchanges
between the mainland and Taiwan is providing favorable conditions
for China's reunification.
She pointed out that the international community has
overwhelmingly welcomed the one-China policy.
However, she said, the Taiwan authorities' non-acceptance of the
one-China principle creates tension in cross-Straits relations.
Liu Yandong says the CCPPR will continue to strengthen ties with
overseas Chinese and contribute to the country's peaceful
reunification.
