People in Hong Kong will begin voting in elections for
representatives to the Hong Kong legislative council.
Hong Kong officials say they will hold a series of promotional
activities to encourage citizens to vote.
Information on candidates and voting procedures will be provided
to voters soon.
Hong Kong legislative councilors have a four-year term.
This is the third legislative council election since Hong Kong
returned to China in 1997.
The biggest change in this election is that the number of
councilors appointed by local elections will increase from 6 to 30,
accounting half of all the council's
seats.
