Jiang Zemin, chairman of China's Central Military Commission, met with visiting Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Beijing Tuesday.

Jiang said he was pleased with the signing of a number of documents between China and India Monday, following the prime minister's talks with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao.

Jiang called Vajpayee an "old friend," whom he met at the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) held in Kazakhstan last year.

Vajpayee said he had good talks Monday with Wen. He said his current visit was aimed at enhancing trust and understanding between the two countries, and he was confident the two sides would achieve success in this regard.
