Chinese President Jiang Zemin and U.S. President George W. Bush
started formal talks in Shanghai Friday morning.
The two leaders will exchange views on Sino-U.S. relations and
major issues of common concern, including the fight against
terrorism.
This is Bush's first overseas visit after the September 11
terrorist attacks in the United States.
After the talks, the two leaders will meet the press.
President Jiang is expected to host a dinner today in honor of
President Bush.
The meeting between the two leaders is still going on at press
time. Bush arrived in Shanghai Thursday evening to attend the Ninth
APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting slated for October 20-21.
