The Statutory Congress of the International Federation of Translators ended on August 3 and elected its new Executive Committee. Vice President Huang Youyi was elected to hold his office again.
Huang Youyi is a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, vice president of China International Publishing Group, president of the China Internet Information Center and vice chairman and secretary-general of the Translators Association of China.
In 2002 he became the first Chinese council member, and Huang was elected vice president of FIT during the 17th World Congress in 2005.
Shanghai will hold the 18th World Congress of FIT from August 4 to 7.
Founded in Paris in 1953 by Pierre-François Caillé, FIT is an international federation of translators' associations which are located in nearly 50 countries throughout the world. Through its member associations, FIT represents the moral and material interests of over 60,000 translators on all five continents.
FIT is a strictly non-political organization of professional translators. As a non-governmental federation, FIT enjoys Category A status with UNESCO and maintains close contacts with many other international organizations.
