Ingrid Betancourt, a former Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia hostage, received a hero's welcome at the French National Assembly on Wednesday.
Betancourt thanked the French politicians and credited them with her freedom. She implored the politicians to keep up the pressure on the FARC so that the hostages left behind could also be freed. Betancourt, who is French-Colombian, was campaigning for Colombia's presidency when she was kidnapped six years ago.
She was freed last Wednesday in a daring Colombian operation involving military spies who tricked FARC rebels into handing over Betancourt and 14 other hostages.
