Xie Yunliang, vice consul-gen. of China's Consulate General in Chicago, said, "Donations are coming from everywhere, not just from the Chinese community. We are deeply touched by people's charitable deeds."

Head of Detroit Chinese Community said, "So far we've received over 690-thousand US dollars in donations, not counting the amount we raised tonight."
The charity gala helped arouse public awareness of the need for help. Chinese people living overseas have revealed again and again that the bonds with their homeland remain strong.
