Jia Qinglin meets Lien Chan

Top political adviser Jia Qinglin has met with the honorary chairman of the Kuomintang Party Lien Chan in the Great Hall of the People. Jia praised Lien's contribution to promote the development of cross-straits relations. He hoped people from both sides can work together to improve relations.

Jia Qinglin expressed sincere thanks for Lien Chan's presentation of sculptures by famous Taiwan artists for the Beijing Olympics.

Jia recalled Lien Chan's historic meeting three years ago with Hu Jintao, the General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee. He said the two parties had held exchanges and dialogue and reached consensus on many cross-straits issues. Due significant changes have taken place in Taiwan in the past few months, and the development of cross-straits has gained momentum thanks to the efforts of Chinese compatriots from both sides.

Jia Qinglin praised Lien Chan's great contributions to improve mutual understanding and cooperation between the mainland and Taiwan. He also thanked the KMT honorary chairman's efforts against Taiwan secessionists. Jia said he hopes people from both sides can work together to create better conditions for the peaceful development of cross-straits relations.

Lien Chan said compatriots from both the mainland and Taiwan hope to establish peaceful and harmonious relations. He said the KMT and the CPC should work together to create a better future for future generations.

After the meeting, Jia Qinglin hosted a banquet for the KMT honorary chairman.
