An awards ceremony for the 12th Hong Kong Golden Bauhinia Awards was held Saturday night in Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
This year's Best Actress Award went to mainland actress Gong Li (Curse of the Golden Flowers) and Hong Kong actress Gillian Chung Yan-Tung (Simply Actor). Gillian Chung also won the Most Popular Actress Award.
Hong Kong star Lau Ching Wan got the Best Actor Award for the film My Name Is Fame.
Johnnie To was given the Best Director Award for his violence and crime film Exiled
The Best Pictures Award was shared by Exiled, A Battle of Wits and After This Our Exile.
Golden Horse-winning actress Zhou Xun was given the Best Supporting Actress award for her performance in The Banquet, collaborating with Zhang Ziyi and Daniel Wu. And the Best Supporting Actor award was given to Ng King-To (Wu Jingtao) for his performance in After This Our Exile, the young boy also won the Best New Performer Award for the role.
The Golden Bauhinia Awards were created by the Hong Kong Film Critics Association (HKFCA) in 1995 to award best Chinese language movies shown in Hong Kong every year. All the awards are voted-for by HKFCA members, most of whom are film critics or reviewers. The rules have been changed recently so that not only the films shown between July 2006 to June 2007, but also films finished but not released can enter.
