British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has urged Britons to leave Tunisia, warning that a further terrorist attack in the country is "highly likely."

In its latest travel advice on Thursday, the FCO said there was a high threat from terrorism in Tunisia, and the current security measures might not be able to provide "adequate protection" for Britons in Tunisia.

"On balance, we do not believe the mitigation measures in place provide adequate protection for British tourists in Tunisia at the present time and we have therefore changed our travel advice accordingly," the FCO said.

The new travel alert advised against all travel to the bulk of Tunisia' border areas, and against all but essential travel to the rest of Tunisia.

"If you're in Tunisia and you don't have an essential need to remain you should leave by commercial means," it said.

British travelers in the country were urged to contact their tour operators or make their own arrangements to leave by using commercial airlines.

Dozens of people, including 30 Britons, were killed when at least one gunman opened fire on a Tunisian beachside hotel in the popular resort of Sousse on June 26.
