Lebanon condemns fatal blasts in Syria

Lebanese President Michel Suleiman condemned on Tuesday the failed assassination attempt against Syrian Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi on Monday and Tuesday's car bombing in front of the old headquarters of the Syrian Interior Ministry.

"Dialogue among all parties is necessary to reach a political solution that will lead to national reconciliation in Syria," Suleiman said, according to a press statement released by the presidential media office.

He warned that "violence cannot lead to solutions, but it only complicates the crisis and increases the threat of division."

At least 14 people were killed and 70 wounded in Tuesday's blast in Damascus, Syrian state TV reported.

On Monday, al-Halqi escaped unharmed a blast that targeted his convoy in Damascus. But the attack killed one of his bodyguards and injured three others. Endi
