U.S. President Barack Obama spoke by phone on Friday evening with Russian President Vladimir Putin following the Boston marathon bombings, according to a readout of the call released by the White House.
According to the readout, President Putin expressed his condolences on behalf of the Russian people for the tragic loss of life in Boston during the call.
For his part, President Obama thanked Putin for those sentiments, and praised the close cooperation that the United States has received from Russia on counter-terrorism, including in the wake of the Boston attack.
The two leaders also agreed to continue their cooperation on counter-terrorism and security issues.
