Moscow has urged the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to reconsider its plan to launch a satellite later this month, the Foreign Ministry said Monday.

Moscow regrets Pyongyang's decision to launch the satellite, saying that the DPRK should not ignore Resolution 1874 of the UN Security Council which banned launches using ballistic missile technology in the DPRK and tightened sanctions against it by blocking funding for nuclear, missile and proliferation activities, the ministry said in a statement.

"We do not question the DPRK's right for peaceful space exploration. Still the implementation of this right is only possible in the context of cancellation of these (UNSC's) decisions," the ministry said.

Meanwhile, Russia was ready to work with its partners in the six-party talks and continue efforts to resolve the problems of the Korean peninsula, the ministry said.

"One of these talks results would be the lifting of sanctions against Pyongyang and creating conditions for a full-fledged participation of the DPRK in the international cooperation in various areas, including peaceful space explorations and nuclear energy," it said.

Resolution 1874 was adopted by UNSC in June 2009 following a nuclear test conducted in the DPRK on May 25, 2009. Endi
