Syria stops purchase of electricity from Turkey
ANKARA, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Syria has stopped purchasing electricity from Turkey, Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz told reporters on Thursday.
"Syria halted its power purchases from Turkey a week ago," Yildiz said, without elaborating on the reason of cancellation.
However, Ankara was ready to resume electricity supply if Syria requests, he added.
Turkey had been providing 20 percent of Syria's electricity supply, and Ankara often reiterates that it would not cut off electricity supply to its neighbour, despite the fact that Turkey has imposed sanctions against Syria.
Those sanctions were not against Syrian people but the regime, said Turkish officials. Enditem
