STOCKHOLM, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Swedish government had submitted a proposition to its parliament calling for cooperation between government departments and social agencies on juvenile crime prevention, according to a government statement released on Tuesday.
The proposition included a new regulation dealing with cooperation between the police and social services on preventing juvenile crime, which was made possible by relaxing existing secrecy laws that had been an obstacle to such cooperation previously.
Social services would be permitted to provide information to the police on young people under the age of 21 who were at risk of becoming involved in criminal activities.
"It's important that authorities dealing with problem young people can cooperate on the prevention of juvenile crime," said Beatrice Ask, Swedish Minister for Justice.
If passed by parliament, the new law could come into force on January 1st of 2013. Enditem
