Arab FMs to meet in Saudi for solutions on Syria
CAIRO, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- The Arab foreign ministers will hold a special meeting on Syria in Jeddah of Saudi Arabia on Sunday, an Arab League (AL) senior official said on Saturday. The meeting will target on solutions for the deteriorating situation in Syria, official news agency MENA quoted AL Deputy Secretary General Ahmed Ben Helli as saying.
He added that the FMs will also discuss steps to be taken after the UN-Arab envoy to Syria Kofi Annan resigned.
Meanwhile, Ben Helli noted that Sunday's meeting will be presided over by Kuwait and FMs will try to reach an agreement on a successor of Annan.
Military showdown between the armed insurgents and the Syrian troops have continued Saturday, mainly in northern Aleppo and a Damascus' suburb.
The capital Damascus and Aleppo, Syria's largest city, have been witnessing intense clashes lately in what appeared to be the death match between the two conflicting sides of the 17-months unrest. Enditem
