LONDON, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Chinese weightlifter Zhou Jun failed in all three attempts in snatch in the women's 53kg division of the Olympic weightlifting competition on Sunday.

Zhou, 17, appeared a little nervous before taking the platform to begin her Olympic campaign, and failed to lift 95kg in her first snatch attempt. She tried two more attemps of 95kg with all her efforts, twice fell down in half way of standing up. It makes her to bid farewell to the London Olympics.

"Today, my state was not good," trying to hold her tears in the eyes, the girl said after the competition, "I don't know, I couldn't perform normally."

"All preparations were done well," said Xu Jingfa, coach in the women's team, "she snatched 92kg successfully in the training back off the platform."

"Her waist twisted in the training, but it doesn't affect the compitition," Xu added.

"Zhou is too young and lack of international competition experience," said Ma Wenguang, president of the Chinese Weightlifting Association (CWA), "I am not surprised by this result."

Zhou was a surprise selection by China, coming into competition without previous international experience. She was in Group B with an entry total of 150kg, 70kg less than her best result.

The final start list released by the International Weightlifting Federation on Friday has thrown up surprises in the women's 53kg category competition.

Zhou was expected to win a medal, but it is considered a disadvantage to lift in Group B as the results are known to their Group A rivals, who can plan their strategy rather than react during the heat of battle.

It seems that it may be a tactical decision by the Chinese team to ease Zhou, into the competition in a less pressured environment and set a tough target for the lifters to follow.

"We want to make her feel easy in the competition," Xu Jingfa said, "She can follow her own rhythm and won't take too much care to others' performance."

Zhou Jun competed at the Asian Weightlifting Championships in May, lifting a total of 220kg in the women's 58kg category, 10kg short of what Zulfiya Chinshanlo of Kazakhstan did in the 53kg category in the last year's world championships in Paris. Enditem
