Heavy fog formed in cities across the country early Tuesday morning. Previously, just central and eastern China had been suffering such conditions for around ten days.
Fog spread to Jiangmusi City, in northwest China, reducing visibility to just 30 meters, a rare occurrence there. Warnings have been issued by weather authority websites, micro blogs and text messaging. A local expressway was shut down completely in the early morning, but reopened by 9 a.m.. Foggy and wet weather has also disrupted shipping along the Yangtze River in Wanzhou, southwestern China.
