The death toll from typhoon Nesat has climbed to 39 in the Philippines, and the number may increase as some 30 others remain missing, the authorities said Thursday afternoon.
At least 33 people were injured due to Nesat, which brought strong winds and massive rains that flooded many areas in affected regions since it made its landfall in the northern Philippine province of Aurora on Tuesday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said.
At least 103,852 families or 489,849 individuals have been affected, of which 36,120 families or 168,065 individuals were in evacuation centers, the council said, adding that damage to agriculture and infrastructure has reached 3.42 billion pesos (78. 60 million U.S. dollars), with more than 6,300 houses either destroyed or damaged.
