The Bahraini government on Monday recalled its ambassador to Syria, in light of the poor security situation.

Foreign Affairs Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Mohammed Al Khalifa told Bahrain News Agency that they decided to recall its ambassador from Damascus.

He said the move followed similar steps taken by neighboring oil rich Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz on Sunday slammed the Syrian crackdown and withdrew its ambassador.

"What is happening in Syria is not acceptable to Saudi Arabia," he said in a statement read out on Al Arabiya TV.

"Syria should think wisely before its too late and issue and enact reforms that are not merely promises but actual reforms," the Saudi King said.
