Archaeologists have discovered a 2,000-year-old Han Dynasty bronze drum in Rongxian County's Liuniang Village, in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, said Zhou Liang, director of Rongxian museum Monday.
The bronze drum, 83 cm high and weighing 46.5 kg, has a diameter of 90 cm and is decorated with a sun pattern in the middle and four frogs symmetrically laid out around the face.
Its style and decoration indicated the drum dated from more than 2,000 years ago at the time of the Han Dynasty. A bronze drum showed the power and wealth of the ancient tribe head, and was used for sacrifices and celebrations, said Zhou.
Twenty-two bronze drums had been previously unearthed in Rongxian County. All were in the Rongxian museum. |
