Chinese President Hu Jintao held talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Shanghai on Saturday morning.

Hu said the visit was set to help deepen the friendship between the two nations and carry forward the China-Palestine friendship cause.

Abbas said the two peoples had long established profound friendship and he expressed the Palestinian people's gratitude for China's support.

The talks were held in the Shanghai International Convention Center after Abbas, on a state visit to China, attended the opening ceremony of the Shanghai World Expo on Friday evening.
