Smoke rises from Chaoyangmen station of subway Line 6 in downtown Beijing on Thursday, April 1, 2010. [Beijing Times]

A subway station which is currently under construction caught fire on Thursday afternoon in downtown Beijing. Nobody was injured.

The fire broke out at around 4:20pm at the Chaoyangmen station of Line 6, which is located along the second ring road, according to the Beijing Times.

Initial investigations showed that electric welding sparks fell on the cables and ropes stacked on the ground which led to the fire, according to the fire department.
