Toyota to recall about 400,000 Prius and other hybrids worldwide for brake problems, said Toyota President Akio Toyoda at a press conference Tuesday.
"This recall will involve 400,000 vehicles of four models," Toyoda said, adding "I am sorry that we have caused trouble again. "
"Let me assure everybody that we will redouble our commitment to quality as our lifeline, with myself in the lead," he said in English.
"We will do everything in our power to ensure the safety and well-being of our customers," he added.
Toyota Motor Corp. on Tuesday formally filed with the Japanese transport ministry for a recall of 223,068 vehicles in Japan, mostly the latest model of its Prius hybrid, to fix brake problems.
Toyoda explained at the press conference there was a problem with the computer program in the ABS braking system. The problem has led to nearly 100 complaints in Japan. |
