Songzanlin Monastery in Yunnan Province

Snowcapped Tibetan villages near the Songzanlin Monastery. Located in the far northern tip of Yunnan Province at an elevation of 3,380 meters, Songzanlin Monastery is the largest Tibetan Buddhist temple complex in the region, featuring two main high buildings in the center and several smaller buildings around them. Built in 1679 by the edict of the Fifth Dalai Lama (1617-1682), the temple is also known as "Little Potala Palace" with a similar style to the Potala Palace. [Tian Liu/China.org.cn]
