In the men's rings final, China's defending champion Chen Yibing seemed to have the gold within reach after a perfect performance and solid landing. However, Brazil's Arthur Zanetti, the last competitor to tackle the rings, had a small leap when landing, but still managed to push Chen out of the gold medal race by 0.1 of a point with a total score of 15.9.

Although Chen, the Chinese team and some spectators were not satisfied with the result, the rules don't allow any appeal to execution scores. Chen Yibing won silver and Brazil grabbed gold.

The 27-year-old Chen didn't complain after the results were announced, but waved to spectators and went on to hug Zanetti to congratulate him with his victory.

Chen has declared that he will retire from the international competition after the London Olympics.
