Professor Tom Kirkwood of Newcastle University has come up with a new theory for why women live longer than men, the Daily Mail reports. Men are simply more biologically "disposable". The controversial study shows that the female body is better at carrying out routine maintenance and keeping the body's cells alive. The aging process is caused by tiny faults throughout our body. As faults build up, the length of our lives is determined by how quickly our body is able to carry out running repairs. As the cells miss opportunities to repair themselves, our bodies gradually degrade until we eventually die.

据英国《每日邮报》报道，英国纽卡斯尔大学的教授汤姆•克伍德最新研究发现，女人寿命普遍比男人长，这是因为男人的身体在生物学上更像是“一次性用品”。这一颇具争议的理论指出，女人的身体比男人更善于进行常规保养，保持细胞的自我修复和活力。寿命的长短是由身体出现的细微错误的多少决定的；随着体内细微错误的累积，人体细胞的自我修复能力又决定了我们寿命的长短。因此，那些总是不能及时进行细胞修复的人，身体会逐渐衰老直至死亡。
