'Lean-meat powder' scares sports field

The French Anti-Doping Agency issued a statement requiring all French athletes not to eat meat during competitions in China, since having meat there may lead to detection of substances in doping tests, Sina.com reports.

The statement highlighted the risk of ingesting a drug named "clenbuterol", commonly known as "lean-meat power", which can be used to speed up animal growth rates and increase lean meat content.

The drug reportedly has ruined many famous athletes' careers and has cast a shroud over the world of professional sports.

On April 17th, the Chinese swimming team held a mobilization meeting for World Championships. Shang Xiutang, director of the swimming centre, stated that any team member found eating out would lose the qualification for the World Championships.

When Shuanghui incident came to light in March this year, Zhang Lin, the swimming champion stressed that "lean-meat power" has caused a lot of trouble for athletes. "A lot of athletes have been framed by this powder." he said.
