“小月月”崭露头角始于10月5日上午11点45分在天涯社区发表的一个帖子。她的雷人举止着实令人大跌眼镜，一股“小月月”热也从此席卷整个中国网络。迄今为止，“小月月”是否确有其人尚有争议。

"Xiao Yueyue" rose to prominence following a post on Tianya.cn at 11:45 am October 5. Due to her eccentric behavior, Xiao Yueyue fever swept the Internet community of China. There has been some debate about whether Xiao Yueyue really exists.

原帖在天涯网上题为《感谢这样一个极品的朋友给我带来这样一个悲情的国庆》，发布的第二天便被多家网络媒体、博主及论坛转载，并通过新浪微博、猫扑、人人、百度百科、豆瓣等网站流传开来。

The original post, titled "Thanks to Such a Shocking Friend for Giving Me Such a Tragic National Day Holiday" on Tianya, was picked up by online media, blog writers and online forums the next day after it was posted. It was also circulated on Sina Microblog, Mop, Renren, Baidu Baike and Douban.

据帖子的作者蓉荣介绍，小月月是她的高中同学，老家在安徽省芜湖市。高中毕业后，两人从未见过面，也没有任何联系。蓉荣目前在上海工作生活。小月月的妈妈和蓉荣的妈妈是好朋友，因此蓉荣的妈妈嘱咐女儿要在假期招待好小月月，带着她和她的所谓男友“小W”在上海转转。

According to Rong Rong, the author of the post, Xiao Yueyue was her high school classmate back in their hometown Wuhu, Anhui Province. The two had never met or contacted each other since graduation. Rong Rong now works and lives in Shanghai. But because their mothers are old friends, Rong Rong's mother asked her daughter to take care of Yueyue during the holiday, and show her and another young man called "Xiao W," presumably Yueyue's boyfriend, around Shanghai.

尽管“小”在中文里有“小巧”的意思，但根据蓉荣在帖子里的描述，小月月体重达80多公斤。随着三人上海之旅的展开，有关她的故事也越发变得荒诞离奇。

Though "xiao" means little in Chinese, Xiao Yueyue weighs over 80 kilograms, according to the post. With the three's trip going further in Shanghai, her story becomes more and more bizarre.

帖子里提到，小月月在宾馆附近的一家超市里买了一大包性感胸罩和内裤，还在一家商店里大声叫嚷说她要是在紫色内裤下面剪个洞洞会更性感。蓉荣说，在经历了这些离奇的事情之后，她实在忍耐不住，只好将此事公布于网络。

The post says that Xiao Yueyue bought sexy bras and underwear in a supermarket near the hotel and shouted in a store that she would cut a hole in the purple underwear to make it sexier. Rong Rong said she could not keep this incident to herself and so posted about it online.

这还只是荒诞离奇故事的开始。蓉容后续的帖子中有关小月月的故事更是千回百转，令人难以置信。

This was just the beginning of this bizarre story. Rong Rong continued to post more about Xiao Yueyue's antics, which became more and more appalling with each update.

鉴于小月月的一系列不寻常举动，感兴趣的网友们甚至通过网络成立了一个虚拟团体，美其名曰：“拜月神教”。

People who are interested in Xiao Yueyue's unusual behavior have formed a virtual organization called "Worship Yue God Religion".
