As the flood season takes hold around China, Chinese Vice
Premier Hui Liangyu on Friday urged all related
government departments to spare no effort in flood control.
Hui said the Chinese government faces great pressures in flood
control and disaster relief so all levels of the government must be
alert to the possible dangers and should regard the safety of
people's life safety their top priority.
The vice premier said floods have already occurred in some
places, and thanks to the well-prepared emergency plans and the
timely instructions from the State Council, disaster relief was
conducted in an orderly way.
The State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters has sent
eight working teams to check the flood prevention and control
efforts in China's major rivers.
Hui said although, generally speaking, the flood control
departments have carried out their work to good effect, there are
still problems.
He asked the governments of all levels to further implement the
flood control working responsibility system and strengthen the
monitoring to forewarn about possible disasters.
