A special evening gala praising the outstanding achievements of the
Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan in the battle against severe
acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) will be staged in Kunming,
capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province, on Friday.
The evening gala will be the largest cultural and artistic
spectacle since the country was ravaged by SARS early this
year.
The gala will feature dances and songs by pop singers from the
Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan, and televised interviews
with celebrities such as Juan Antonio Samaranch, former president
of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Tung Chee-hua, Hong
Kong Chief Executive, and Edmund Ho Hau Wah, Macao's Chief
Executive.
The evening celebration, which will be broadcast live, is organized
by the Foundation for Poverty Alleviation in China, the China Red
Cross and the Yunnan Provincial People's Government, said sources
from the Yunnan Provincial Government.
