Argentina's basketball team, the champion in the Athens 2004
Olympic Games, will participate in Borislav Stankovic Cup, to be
held at Beijing on July 26-31.
The Argentine team will travel Wednesday to China and debut in
the Stankovic Cup on July 26 versus Australia, the champion of
Oceania.
On July 27, Argentina will meet Angola, the champion of Africa,
to then have a day of rest.
Then, on July 29, the Argentines will play against the champions
of Europe, Lithuania, and fourth in Athens 2004. The day after, the
South Americans will play versus China, the champion of Asia, with
the tallest player in the US professional basketball league (NBA),
Yao Ming.
The closing of activities will be Sunday 31, versus Puerto Rico,
which will participate in this tournament after having ended third
in the latest Tournament of the Americans.
The champion of this tournament will win 100,000 US dollars; the
second 50,000, and the third 25,000.
FIBA President Carl Men-Ky Ching, said Beijing will stage the
best basketball ever seen in China.
Participating in the tournament will be continental champions
and Argentina, winner of the Olympic gold in Athens.
