Wu Bangguo, the newly-elected Chairman of the Standing Committee of
the National People's Congress (NPC) met Tuesday with NPC deputies
from the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions (SARs).
Wu
said he was highly impressed by the performance and contributions
of the Hong Kong and Macao deputies at the First Session of the
10th National People's Congress that closed in Beijing Tuesday.
The NPC deputies in Hong Kong and Macao have played an important
role in local economic and social development since both regions
returned to the motherland, he said.
Wu
hoped that Hong Kong and Macao deputies would continue to
contribute to the stability and prosperity of local society and
supporting the work of the SAR governments by performing their
duties to the best of their abilities.
The Hong Kong and Macao deputies were expected to do their best to
carry out the basic laws of both SARs and abide by the principle of
"one country, two systems," Wu said.
