The Nanfang Daily newspaper has carried an interview with
CPPCC member Wang Xingdong, who has issued strong calls for the
introduction of a film rating system.
Wang Xingdong, a famous playwright, received a lukewarm response
when he put forward the same proposal two years ago. He decided to
submit the proposal again, partly due to a recent experience when
he saw a film full of scenes depicting homosexuality and incest
being shown in a primary school.
He
says a film rating system should be introduced into China so
viewers will know exactly what to expect, and embarrassment can be
avoided.
According to his own investigations, Wang Xingdong says a youngster
sees scenes of violence over 7,000 times a year in films and TV
shows.
