Ukraine world champion Oleg Lisogor snatched his second title at the 21st World University Games by winning the men's 100 meters breaststroke while American Kevin Clements renewed an 18-year-old meet record in the men's 400 m individual medley here on Tuesday.
Lisogor, who triumphed in 50m two days ago, blitzed the rest of the field from the start, touching home with a time of one minute 2.00 seconds.
Ryosuke Imai from Japan finished second in 1:02.25 and Hungarian Richard Bodor took bronze, the first medal for Hungarian swimming team.
"This is not my best time but I am happy to win the gold," said Lisogor, winner in the 50m breaststroke at the World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan last month.
Clements, second after the first two strokes behind Japanese Susumu, took the lead in breaststroke and freestyle, powered home in a meet record time of 4:17.82. The previous mark was held by Canadian Alex Baumann in 1983.
"I'm not very good in backstroke and butterfly so I look forward to the breaststroke. I am happy to swim my personal-best and finally get the gold here," said Clements, who took an lower- than-expected silver medal in 200m individual medley.
American Peter Marshall, winner of 50m and 100m backstroke, failed to take his third individual title in the men's 200 meters backstroke, finishing only fourth.
Marshall led the first 150m before his teammate Raymond Bryce Hunt surged ahead from the last split, winning a with a time of two minutes 0.20 seconds.
Frenchman Simon Dufour finished second in 2:00.38, edging Chinese Yu Rui to the third in 2:00.55. Marshall was fourth in 2: 01.03.
When asked whether Marshall posed a lot of pressure on him, Hunt said: "He gave me some pressure, but I gave myself more pressure because I really want to win this event. I shortened my personal best by one second."
American Andrew Mahaney repeated the same feat as Hunt by winning the men's 200m butterfly gold with a strong finish in 1:58. 25, ahead of his compatriot Jeff Somensatto 1:59.00 and Italian Christian Galenda in 1:59.81.
Camelia Alina Petec from Romania snatched the title in women's 200m freestyle, clocking a new meet record in 1:59.45, with Russian Nadejda Tchemezova second in 1:59.79 and American Sarah Tolar 2:01.00.
Sachiko Yamada grabbed Japan fourth gold medal in women's 1,500 m freestyle, a new event to this Universiade, in 16:19.44. Rachel Komisarz of America took the silver in 16.31.18.
The Chinese women team won the 4x100m medley relay in 4:07.41, beating favorites United States to second in 4:08.22.
