L.A. Int'l Airport Beefs up Security
Adjust font size:

The Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) beefed up security following the terrorist car-bombing at the international airport in Glasgow, Scotland, airport authorities said on Sunday.

The measures included increased uniformed and canine unit patrols out of "an abundance of caution" carried out since Saturday, officials said, adding that further steps would be taken, including searching vehicles entering the airport complex.

But as always, LAX officials said they would carry out random vehicle searches.

The beefed-up security slow travelers, causing longer queues waiting for check-ups.

But U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said the attack in Scotland did not portend anything ominous for the United States.

"I have seen no specific credible information that this incident is connected to any threat to our homeland," he said.
