The Xinhua News Agency reported the fire started in the restaurant, which is on the first floor of the south building, and spread quickly throughout the whole building. The building burned down after two and a half hours.

Because of the fire, all hotel workers were evacuated from the hotel, which is located on Maliandao Tea Street in Xuanwu district in downtown Beijing.

To date, the cause of the fire incident remains unknown.
