Despite the tempting low prices, people in Chongqing are crossing Tibet off of their wish lists of winter travel destinations due to the harsh winter climate on the plateau, the Chongqing Evening News reports.
Sources from local travel services reveal that the cost for a tour including a return flight from central China's Chongqing Municipality to Tibet is currently 2,580 yuan (about US$323) per person, down 2,000 yuan from the price in July, when the Qinghai-Tibet Railway first opened and triggered a national fever for traveling to Tibet.
However, despite the low prices and ardent promotions by travel agencies, citizens are hardly showing any interest, afraid of Tibet's cold and troublesome winter weather that has often closed scenic spots and caused danger to travelers.
