The new "Hear Shanghai" electronic guide is unveiled at the ongoing 2006 China International Tourism Expo in Beijing before it's put into use before the end of the year.
Xinhua News Agency reports the mobile phone-sized guide will provide tourists with commentary on around 100 scenic spots in a number of languages. The Oriental Pearl Tower, Yu Garden and city zoo are just some of the city sights it will cover.
The electronic guides will be available to rent from several hotels and international travel agents in Shanghai by December 31.
Shanghai is commonly viewed as one of the main business hubs of China. A popular tourist destination with a large expatriate population, the city received 90.12 million domestic visitors and 4.445 million overseas visitors in 2005.
