Top Watchdog Exposes Product Quality Cases

The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) recently announced the findings of its investigations of specific product quality incidents and the actions taken in response to them.

Jiangsu Province closed the workshop and facilities of the Taixing Glycerin Factory, the manufacturer of the industrial solvent TD glycerin, which caused a drug poisoning accident in Panama. It also revoked the factory's business license and terminated its production. Quality supervision authorities cancelled the registration of the company's corporate standard for TD glycerin, effectively banning it from producing the product.

The AQSIQ, in collaboration with other departments concerned, also went after Xuzhou Anying Biotechnology Development Co. in Jiangsu Province and Binzhou Futian Biotechnology Co. Ltd. in Shandong Province, which exported substandard pet food to the United States. They revoked the two companies' business licenses, cancelled their import and export authorizations, closed their offices and workshops, and terminated their production, sales and export activities. Local police departments also started to investigate the cases and arrested major company officials suspected of breaching the law. The cases are currently being handled according to judicial procedures.

In response to Japanese media reports on the lead contamination of ceramic cooking pots imported from China in May, the AQSIQ said that lab tests of samples of the Chinese producer's same products showed that the lead contents were within the requirements set by both the Chinese national standard and Japanese food safety regulations. It has been proven that these pots have no problems in terms of quality, safety and hygiene, the AQSIQ said.
