China should trim people's morals and behavior to create a better social and cultural environment for the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008, a senior leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC) said in Beijing on Sunday.
The country should take the chance of preparing the Games to tackle the prominent moral problems and uncouth behavior that cropped up in social ethic construction and promote the socialist conception on honor and disgrace, said Li Changchun, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, at a panel meeting of the country's political advisors who convened for their annual session.
Etiquette, public order, social service and environmental sanitation in both urban and rural areas are the focus of the moral and behavior shaping campaign, Li told a group of members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) from educational and sports circles.
Education and sport form an important part of the foundation of social ethic and cultural construction, and they play important roles in shaping people's morals and bodies, Li said.
The CPPCC National Committee's annual session opened on Saturday and is scheduled to conclude on March 15.
