Beijing Olympics to Boost Road Logistics
Adjust font size:

The Beijing 2008 Olympic Games are expected to promote China's road transportation, especially special vehicle transport.

After the successful bid for the Olympic Games, Beijing decided to launch an investment of 180 billion yuan (US$23 billion) in 142 projects on city infrastructure, including subway, light rail, expressway, airport and stadium. These projects have created a great demand in Beijing for special transport vehicles such as self-dumping vehicles, concrete mixers, bulk cement trucks, emergency vehicles, sweepers and fire-fighting vehicles.

According to the Research Institute of Highway under the Ministry of Communications, the overall ownership of special vehicles in China were 3.5 million units in 2006. The Chinese market demanded 605,000 special vehicles and needed to upgrade 120,000 units. In 2008, the overall ownership and demands will rise to 4.62 million units and 732,000 units respectively. A total of 140,000 special vehicles need to be upgraded.
