A hazardous antibiotic injection of clindamycin phosphate glucose (Chinese name "Xinfu"), produced by the Anhui Huayuan Worldbest Biology Pharmacy Co, caused six deaths, and 93 ill in the country, according to the results of an investigation by the State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) on August 15. The first reports about problems with the injection came on July 27. Severe adverse reactions include chest, kidney or stomach pains, vomiting and anaphylactic shock. The Ministry of Health issued an urgent notice to ban use of the drug in August. A deadline of August 31 was set to recall all suspect "Xinfu" antibiotic injections. SFDA investigation said the drug was not properly sterilized according to sterilization temperature and duration set within the state standard.
