Pakistan Frees 50 Indian Prisoners
Adjust font size:

Pakistani authorities on Sunday freed 50 Indian prisoners from a jail in the port city of Karachi, who will be handed over to Indian authorities at Wahgah border on Monday, an aid group said.

The freed prisoners boarded vehicles for Lahore, the capital of eastern Pakistani province Punjab, from where they will proceed to the border for their handover, the Ansar Burney International Trust said.

The aid group said in a statement that it will pay all the expenses to send them to India.

India freed 43 Pakistani civilian prisoners and fishermen on Saturday.

Pakistan and India free each other's fishermen and those civilian prisoners, who complete jail terms, under an understanding reached in 2006.

The fishermen are caught when they cross into other's water boundaries as there are no maritime boundaries between the two countries.

Pakistani and Indian officials are involved in talks to determine the maritime boundaries and a joint survey has already been conducted for this purpose.

The two countries have also agreed to immediately release those people who mistakenly cross border.
