Arab Leaders Wrap up Summit, Adopt Riyadh Declaration

Arab leaders wrapped up a two-day summit in Saudi capital of Riyadh on Thursday, adopting the Riyadh declaration that activates the Arab peace initiative and calls for clearing the Middle East from weapons of mass destruction and nuclear arms.

The final session of the 19th summit ended at 4:00 PM (13:00 GMT) with host Saudi King Abdullah announced the closure of the Riyadh summit.

The declaration affirms the option of just and comprehensive peace as a strategic option for the Arab nation.

It added that the Arab peace initiative draws the right path for reaching a peaceful settlement for the Arab-Israeli conflict based on the principles and resolutions of international legitimacy, and the "land for peace" formula.

The declaration underlined the importance of freeing the region of all weapons of mass destruction, without double standards and eclecticism and warned against starting a dangerous and destructive race of nuclear armament.

Meanwhile, it said every country have the right to possess peaceful nuclear energy according to relevant international terms provided that they receive necessary inspection.
