The handover ceremony of goods and materials donation from the Chinese government to the Indonesian government through WHO for disaster relief was held at the Ministry of health of Indonesia in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The goods and materials worth about US$2.13 million, including 26 kinds of medical equipment and instrument will be distributed to the hospitals and clinical institutions in the disaster affected areas.
Lan Lijun, ambassador of China to Indonesia, Siti Fadilah Supar, Health Minister of Indonesia, and representative of WHO in Indonesia Dr. Georg Petersen were present at the ceremony.
Lan said that showing its good will and deep concern, the Chinese government has offered another 20 million yuan (US$2.6 million) grand aid for bird flu prevention and 3 million yuan (US$386,000) of anti-malaria medicine to the Indonesian government, these projects are under the implementation.
On January 29, Chinese government also donated tents, blankets, sewing machines, computers and other materials valuing at US$45,000 to the Indonesian government through United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA).
Since the tsunami catastrophe hit Indonesia at the end of 2004, Chinese government has fully implemented relief aid worth US$25 million to the Indonesian government.
